Obituary for Dominic M. DeFilippo

Dominic M. DeFilippo, 88, passed peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2023 at his home in Naples Fl. Born on March 16, 1934 in the Bronx, his was the son of the late Michael and Jennie DeFilippo. He would often tell of the time he saw President Roosevelt drive through Fordham as a child. The family moved to Bristol Ct in 1944 where Dominic spent his formative years. After High School Graduation he joined the Army and earned an honorable discharge. He returned home to Bristol and began a 44 year career at Wallace Barnes. It was at this time that he met the love of his life, Shirley. They were wed on October 6, 1956 and enjoyed 57 years together. Dominic was a jack of all trades, and ventured into several “moonlight” endeavors including a restaurant and real estate ventures. He worked hard and was a loving and caring Father and Husband. He was also a proud member of the Italian Social Club in Bristol Ct. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church for many years.
After retirement in 1994, Dominic began his new life in Naples Fl. He and Shirley gained a new circle of friends and became a fixture at Windsor Place in Naples, serving on the board for several years and helping just about everyone when they needed a hand. He was endeared to everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his brother Richard DeFilippo of Venice FL, son Gary DeFilippo and wife Tammy of Plymouth Ct, Daughter Diane Stankiewicz and Husband Kirk of South Kingstown RI, six Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren with one on the way. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley and son Michael.
Calling hour and service will be held at DuPont Funeral Home in Bristol on February 10th 2023 at 10:00am to 11:00 am. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am followed by Burial with Full Military Honors at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol.
