Obituary for Michael E. Barnett Sr.

Michael Edward Barnett Sr. “Mike”, of Bristol, CT, husband of Sharon Floyd, died unexpectedly at home on October 1, 2022. Born on July 6,1956 in New Britain, CT, Mike was the son of the late Samuel Barnett Sr. and Goldie (Rowe) Barnett. Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His kindness, charisma, selflessness, and zest for life inspired many. He was especially known for uplifting and encouraging others and bringing a smile to the face of anyone he came into contact with. He loved spending time in prayer, reading scripture and listening to gospel music. After growing up in New Britain, CT and working at Tuttle & Bailey for 10 years, Mike moved to Bristol and started working for a division of Wallace Barnes that later became Theis Precision Steel. Mike worked as a machinist at Theis for 35 years before retiring in 2019. Mike loved sports and was a devoted fan of the New York Giants and the Philadelphia 76ers. Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon Floyd of Bristol, CT, siblings Dennis Barnett, Pastor Robert Barnett and wife Dorothy, Benjamin Barnett of Knoxville, TN. He was predeceased by siblings Gloria Elaine Campbell, Samuel Barnett Jr., Mark Barnett, and Pamela Barnett. Mike’s children are Michael Barnett Jr. and fiancée Jannely of Bristol, CT, Maurice Barnett and wife Ashley of New Britain, CT, Derrell Tomberlin of New Britain, CT, Charise Barnett of Longwood, FL, Kevin Barnett and wife Kelly of Bloomfield, CT. He was also predeceased by his son Tyrell Walker. Mike was a devoted grandfather to Adriana, Maryah, Camren, Jarice, Annalise, Isaiah, Mariana, Sophia, Zaryah, Pierce, Asean, Alayna, Prestin, Avery, and great granddaughter Na’viyah. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends. Calling hours will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Bealuh A.M.E. Zion Church, located at 138 Circle Street Bristol, CT, on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 am. Masks are required to enter. Following services, burial will take place at Peacedale Cemetery, located at 115 James P. Casey Rd., Bristol, CT.
