Wayne R. Cyr, 64, of Bristol, husband of Patricia (Castonguay), passed away on July 1, 2021, at his daughter’s home in New Britain while surrounded by his family. Born on February 6, 1957, in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Thelma (Cyr) Hopkins and the late Donald H. Cyr. Wayne lived most of his life in Bristol, CT and graduated in 1975 from Bristol Eastern High School. After high school, Wayne followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and loved driving a dump truck. Besides his wife Patricia and mother Thelma, Wayne is survived by his sisters Donna Cyr (Tim Zielinski) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Lisa (Steve) Nichols of Wilton, CT; two brothers Brian Fournier of Melbourne, FL and Daniel Cyr of Largo, FL; two very special daughters Lisa (Victor) Huntley-Acevedo of Bristol, CT and Lynne Huntley of New Britain, CT; his special grandchildren who provided so much love in the last year of his life; one nephew Jared Sneed and four nieces; Danielle Cyr, Daneca Sneed, Alexa Nichols and Samantha Nichols. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved very much. Family was particularly important to Wayne, and he loved being from such a large family. He also left behind his dear childhood friend, Charlie Castonguay. Wayne was predeceased by his father Donald H. Cyr, paternal grandparents Rene Cyr and Wilenna Cyr, maternal grandparents Fred Pelletier and Helen Pelletier along with several aunts and uncles.
Wayne never met a stranger and loved to have a laugh or two with the patrons of the local donut shops. He loved a good cup of coffee while joking with the locals. He was also passionate about cars and loved to attend local car shows. He often took his girls, Lisa and Lynn to the shows and they enjoyed the “classic 1957 chevy models”. Wayne shared a close bond with his mom and wherever she lived, Wayne always stayed in touch. She was his rock!
A memorial service for Wayne will be held Thursday, August 5th at 11:00 at the DuPont Funeral Home located at 25 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol, CT. Calling hours will be from 10-11am at the funeral home. Following the memorial service will be the burial at St. Joseph’s cemetery where he will be buried with his father, Donald H. Cyr. The family has established a GoFundMe Campaign to assist with funeral expenses. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate any support so we may provide Wayne with the desire of his heart….to be buried with his dad. The GoFundMe Campaign can be found at:

Wayne and I became fast friends shortly after I moved to the neighborhood. I was starting kindergarten. We stayed friends for years and did a lot together. He was a faithful friend who never failed to call me on my birthday. I always liked Wayne because he was a good person who endured so many struggles. I am sure he is happy to be near his father, a many he hardly knew but always adored. Rest In Peace my friend. Rest In Peace.

So sorry to hear the news of Wayne's passing. I still have good memories of both when the family lived across from us, as well as when Wayne would just be walking by and would stop in to chat.
