Inez E. Atkinson June 13, 1924 - December 14 , 2020
Inez was a self-described Jazz aficionado, she loved listening to the recordings of the jazz greats and could discuss in great detail the genesis of the music as well as the life of the musicians. Another one of her favorite pastimes was working on crossword and word game puzzles. As a community leader and senior activist, Inez was committed to supporting several local and national charities including: the Salvation Army; United Negro College Fund; Vietnam Veterans Association; Walk for the Cure; the St. Joseph’s Indian School and the ASPCA among others. One of her proudest civic moments was serving as a local organizer and participant in the historic 1963 National March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Inez is survived by her two daughters Joyce Ramsey of Bristol, CT and Carolyn Ramsey of Indianapolis, IN; and son Donald Ramsey of NC; also, her brother Leon D. Atkinson of Deltona, FL; her sister Iris Williams of Clermont, FL; and her eldest nephew, William Atkinson also of Clermont., FL. Three of Inez’s children preceded her in death, they were Florence Atkinson, Sherry Ramsey-Perry and James Victor Ramsey. 51 young men, women and children claim Inez Atkinson as Grandma, Great Grandma and even Great-Great Grandma. While over a hundred others know her as Aunty, Cousin or Miss Inez, she was recognized by all as an energetic classy, generous lady with her own brand of humor and straight talk.
