In Loving Memory
Garry L. Pearson
3/4/1961 - 2/10/2010

Garry L. Pearson of Springfield, MA departed this world on Tuesday, February 10, 2010 in his home. At his passing, Garry worked for the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Group in Springfield, where he was a senior supervisor. Garry graduated from Bristol Central HS and attended the University of Massachusetts where he was named “All-American” running back in 1981. Garry’s athletic accomplishments in his collegiate years were surmountable. Garry was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, where his playing years were shortened by a knee injury. He later went on to play several seasons in the USFL for the New Orleans Breakers. Realizing that he could not continue to play the sport that he loved, Garry returned to Springfield choosing to work with youth struggling with criminal and abusive backgrounds. Garry was inducted into the UMASS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. In his senior year at UMASS, he shared the Boston Gridiron Club’s George Bulger Lowe Award with Doug Flutie, then the quarterback of Boston College. He was named Child Care Worker at the RFK Center on several occasions. Those who treasure his memories, but mourn his departure are his daughter, who was very dear to his heart, Alexis Pearson of Bristol, he father James Green and his mother Annie Grace Pearson; brothers David and Darryl Evans of Florida, a sister Denise Evans of Bristol, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Garry was predeceased by those who loved him most, his maternal grandparents, Abraham and Ollin Pearson, his uncle James E. Pearson, who was also very influential in his life and his uncle Abraham Pearson, Jr. Services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 11am in DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Calling hours will be held Wednesday morning from 9-11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol.

As my thoughts and prayers are for the Family of this wonderful man, I would ask the same back from them as well. Garry touched the lives of so many that it becomes almost overwhelming to think of masses that have been affected. I worked side by side with Garry for 8 years. During that time there was very little we didn't deal with together and for that i thank our heavely Father. I was proud to have him as my friend. for what it worth...I loved this man...for the examples he set...for the times we had...and for just being "G". God Bless You Garry...you will be sorely missed.

Over the last several months I made attempts to locate Gary thru Face Book & connected with 1 relative who did not know how to connect me but was able to inform me of his passing & I'm grateful that she did. Gary & I grow up together, got into mischief together (of course I was following his lead, LOL). His family is & have been committed to improving peoples lives & safety through Love, Ministry & Community Service. It's amazing to see that Gary continued on that LEGACY with his life choices and we celebrate his LIFE & ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Ivan L.
